On April 24, 2014, a Washington County Sheriff's Deputy took a theft report from a man
responsible for maintaining The Oregon Chapter of the 10th Mountain Division Veterans
memorial site located along eastbound Highway 26 near mile post 54. This is a small
weigh station near the town of Banks that is operated by the Oregon Department of

These flags were used in the dedication of a memorial grove and fly in honor of United
States Veterans who have fought for our country. The 10th Mountain Division was the
only US Army division trained in mountain warfare and to fight on skis in Italy. The
memorial was established in 1995.

The items stolen were an American Flag and a flag representing the 10th Mountain
Division. Both flags were flying from a secure flag pole. The flag pole and information
placard were also damaged during the theft.

The 10th Mountain Division Flag is fairly unique. The logo is red crossed sabers on a blue
back ground, with a white border in the shape of a keg with a red white and blue striped

The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in recovering the stolen flags. If you
