RENTON - Wide receiver Percy Harvin was an enigma for the Seattle Seahawks last season.

After being acquired via trade from the Minnesota Vikings last offseason, he appeared in just three games for Seattle. A hip injury required surgery in August and he managed to appear in just one regular season game. A concussion forced him to miss the NFC Championship as well before returning for the Super Bowl.

But Harvin has appeared healthy for most of the offseason and says he's feeling back to form.

"This is the best I’ve felt in a long, long time," Harvin said. "I’m just going to keep building, building, building and I’m looking forward to the season."

Harvin flashed his sparkling ability during the first practice of training camp on Friday. He caught several passes and zipped up the field between defenders that appeared stationary by comparison.

He says his confidence is back after two years mostly lost to injury.

"It’s tremendously high right now," Harvin said. "After doing some things that I haven’t able to do in a while, just getting my whole hip back strong, I got a lot motion that I haven’t had in a while so my feeling tremendously confident and I know I’ll put it together."

However, Harvin did not take part in team activities on Saturday. He went through early warmups and caught some passes but never had his helmet with him.

Harvin also sat out the second day of the team's three-day mandatory mini-camp in June. Head coach Pete Carroll said they would continue to manage Harvin's status to keep him healthy.

"He practiced half the time and then we rested him a little bit and made sure he was good," Carroll said in June. "We haven’t been working him three straight days a lot of the time during the offseason so we didn’t want to do it here either.”

Harvin appears to be back to himself, but it shouldn't be a surprise that the team will manage his workload throughout training camp. They want to see what Harvin can do on Sundays starting in September.

Injury Updates:

Wide receivers Percy Harvin and Kevin Norwood, and tackle Michael Bowie were held out of practice on Saturday.

The trio joined the group of players sidelined for the start of mini-camp on Friday.

Bowie "tweaked" his shoulder in practice Friday. It's unclear what is ailing Norwood as head coach Pete Carroll did not talk after practice to provide updates.

Linebackers Bruce Irvin (hip) and Korey Toomer (hamstring) remain on the physically unable to perform list. Cornerback Eric Pinkins (Lisfranc) remains on the non-football injury list.

Linebacker Malcolm Smith (ankle), safety Kam Chancellor (hip) and tackle Russell Okung (foot) remain sidelined, but are close to being able to return. Chancellor and Okung both took part in early warmups on Saturday.

Defensive tackle Jesse Williams appeared to suffer an injury early in practice as he was attended to by the training staff and attempted to stretch out his right side. He did not return to practice.

Defensive tackle Jimmy Staten also left practice with an apparent right leg issue and guard Nate Isles was getting his left hand attended to by the training staff.

Highlights and Notes:

With Michael Bowie sitting out with a shoulder injury, second-round pick Justin Britt took over with the first-string offensive line at right tackle. Britt and Bowie were expected to battle for the starting job, but Britt may get a head start in the competition if Bowie can't practice for an extended stretch of time.

Alvin Bailey was at left tackle in place of Russell Okung with James Carpenter, Max Unger and J.R. Sweezy in the middle.

Garry Gilliam, Caylin Hauptmann, Lemuel Jeanpierre, Stephen Schilling and Nate Isles (before his injury) made up the second unit.

On the defensive side of the ball, Michael BennettTony McDanielBrandon Mebane and Cliff Avril made up the base defensive line with Mike Morgan replacing Bruce Irvin and Malcolm Smith at strong-side linebacker.

Defensive tackle Jordan Hill and defensive end Benson Mayowa were among the first to rotate in with the first-team defense.

Russell Wilson had a stronger day of performance on Saturday.

Wilson connected with receiver Kevin Smith on a deep crossing pattern for a big gain. He also dropped in a nice over-the-shoulder ball to Jermaine Kearse along the right sideline over cornerback Richard Sherman.

Kearse reeled in the grab but was called for offensive pass interference.

Wilson later connected with Kearse again over cornerback A.J. Jefferson for a big gain.

The best completion of the day came from backup Tarvaris Jackson.

Jackson escaped the pocket and threw to a well-covered Bryan Walters on a crossing route. Walters managed to bring in the catch despite tight coverage from Jefferson on the play.

Recently signed Morrell Presley was working more as a tight end than a receiver.

Roster Moves:

The Seahawks made a handful of roster moves prior to the second day of camp.

With running back Marshawn Lynch holding out, he was placed on the reserve/did not report list by the team.

In addition, the team waived/injured defensive tackle Dewayne Cherrington.

The moves freed up a pair of rosters for the team to add linebacker Brandon Denmark and safety Steven Terrell.

C Jared Smith was moved to the team's injured reserve list after being waived/injured by the team on Thursday. Smith passed through waivers unclaimed and does not count against the team's 90-man roster limit.
