Trail Blazers unveil new look for upcoming season

The Trail Blazers on Saturday gave Rip City its first look at the team's new uniforms. The Blazers unveiled the new "Association" and "Icon" editions, which are replacing the traditional "home" and road" unis.

The team will release two more uniforms this Fall and Winter with one drawing on inspirations from the team's players and the other inspired by local communities and cultures.

The new uniform collection features modernized wordmarks for "BLAZERS" and "PORTLAND" on the jersey fronts, updated fonts for player names and numbers, and the word "RIP CITY on the front of the waistband.

The design process took between three and four years, according to Blazers VP of Brand Strategy Ryan Flaherty. The franchise received input from 300 fans, with current and former players also having a voice in what the uniforms would look like.

Flaherty tells Rip City Radio that the design process was a collaboration between the Blazers, NIKE, and NBA officials.

The new uniforms are the most lightweight in the history of the league, according to Flaherty. The lighter fabrics will help wick away sweat 30% faster and lessen drying time.

The new unis also have a uniquely Portland flavor: each uniform is made in part with approximately 20 recycled plastic bottles.

The new "Association" and "Icon" editions will go on sale to the general public at the end of September  via the Rip City Clothing Company and the Blazers team store at Moda Center.
