Jake Luton: looking forward to fall call

The Oregon State Beavers will open up camp with a QB competition between veteran’s Marcus McMaryion, Darrell Garretson and Conor Blount as well as Juco transfer Jake Luton. Luton joined Chad and Travis on Rip City Drive Thursday to discuss his hopes of winning the starting job during camp.

Luton was asked who he thinks the leaders are of this team.

“I would like to think it’s going to be me.  Right now a big face coming in that’s always been kind of a leader and the guy is Ryan Nall.  He’s done a great job with me and with all the new guys making us all feel welcome and kind of setting the tone for how things are and he brings it every day.”

Luton also talked about why guys seem to love playing for Gary Andersen.

“It has to do with his personality. He just in a way demands your respect.  He’s a guy that comes in the room and you just respect him.  You listen to what he has to say because he’s not in your face, he’s not overly hyped up or too quiet.  He wants to make sure all of us are taken care of and I think that’s something that he kind of just has.”

Luton also talked about the receiving corps he has at Oregon State.

“I think we’re really talented and I think we’ve got a couple old guys that have done a good job teaching the younger receivers coming in because those younger guys have a lot of talent.  So if we can get them up to speed and get them ready to play, I think that’s big for us because we have a lot of talent.”

Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to stay tuned to Rip City Radio 620 for all you Beaver coverage.
