Jamaal Wilkes talks future of the Lakers

After a mediocre start to Summer League, Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball looks like he’s on his way to becoming the next super star for the purple and gold. Pro Basketball Hall of Famer, Jamaal Wilkes, joined Chad and Travis on Rip City Drive Thursday to discuss his future, the future of the Lakers and the future of many other rookies taking part in summer league.

Wilkes insists that now that fans have seen Lonzo Ball play, they’re not quite as worried about what LaVar Ball has to say.

“I think as the fans get to know Lonzo, more and know his game, I think his dad will fade in the background.”

Wilkes also said that Blazers rookie Zach Collins can’t get so down on himself if his play is a little disappointing.

“He’s got to be patient. He’s got to be patient with himself. He’s got to be patient with the media. He’s just got to be patient with everyone.”

Wilkes also said he loved the move by the Golden State Warriors to go out and get former Duck Jordan Bell.

“It’s another shrewd, smart move on Bob Myers’ part. Because one thing Jordan brings is youth and they’re still a young team, but as they age, it’s smart to bring in good, young players like that who are multi-dimensional and can play different positions.”

Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to stay tuned to Rip City Radio 620 for all your coverage of Blazers summer league play.
