Since his first year in the league, Damian Lillard has shown Rip City proper respect by being a class act in the organization and in the community. He joined Chad and Travis on the Rip City Drive Monday to talk about his time in Portland, his love for the city and what it’s been like to play alongside Jusuf Nurkic.
Lillard talked about how he welcomed Nurkic to the team when the Blazers traded for him back in February.
“Being traded and coming to a new team, being unsure, not knowing how you’re going to be accepted – I’m sure he knew how we felt about Mason, so I felt like it was important for me to make him understand that the most important thing is for us to win and for him to know that we appreciate him being a part of our team.”
Lillard also talked about his favorite part of having Nurkic on the team.
"It’s a lot of fun, but the best thing about him is he’s a great teammate."
Finally, he talked about the possibility of bringing a third star player to Portland to play alongside himself and C.J, McCollum.
“It’s something that you have to come be a part of. You’ll learn to love the city and the kind of place it is. The fanbase that we have is arguably the best in the league. And it takes somebody to come here and experience that to truly see it.”
