Beavers beat Viks but so many questions!

The Beavers got the "W" Saturday against Portland State. That is the ultimate bottom line. However, it was a hollow victory for Beaver Nation. A statement win was what everyone was looking for....instead a nail biter that reminded everyone of the Sacramento State game six years ago. Give Bruce Barnum and the Portland State Vikings a ton of credit. They outplayed Oregon State....plain and simple. The opening drive for PSU was jaw dropping.......3 plays 79-yards in just 69 seconds. It set the tone for the day and gave the FCS opponent the immediate belief they could compete. The fact Oregon State was able to actually win this game bodes well for the future. Some lesser teams might have folded under the pressure of needing that final drive in the fourth quarter down 32-28  to avoid an historic loss. The heat was oppressive on the sidelines. I felt it might has sucked a little emotion out of the Beavs. Once again, missed assignments in the defensive backfield was the most troubling aspect of the afternoon. That needs immediate care before the Golden Gophers come to town next weekend. There is so much to like about this OSU Football team and it is so early. I think a game against a BIG TEN opponent is just what the doctor ordered. The emotion will be there.....the heat won't be a factor and the incentive to prove naysayers wrong will give the Beavs that chip on their shoulder that could propel them to a possible win over a Minnesota team that struggled to a 17-7 win over Buffalo. Thanks to Oregon Live for providing the Gary Andersen post game comments
