Beavers hold off UCLA 69-63

The Beavers showed they can finish! An impressive 69-63 win over UCLA at Gill. Tres Tinkle hit a big three pointer to give the Beavers a 62-60 lead and they never gave it up. CORVALLIS, Ore. – All five Oregon State starters scored in double figures in a 69-63 victory over UCLA on Thursday night at Gill Coliseum. Tres Tinkle scored a team-high 16 points and hit a clutch 3-pointer with 2:58 to play that gave the Beavers the lead for good. Stephen Thompson Jr. and Drew Eubanks each added 12 points for the Beavers (11-7, 3-3 Pac-12), Ethan Thompson scored 11 and Seth Bergeradded 10. Tinkle's 3-pointer gave the Beavers a 62-60 lead before Thompson added his own 3 with 2:16 left. After Eubanks' dunk for Oregon State, Kris Wilkes hit a 3-pointer for UCLA to close the gap to 67-63 with 27 seconds left. Tinkle scored the game's final points on two free throws. The pace was slow throughout the first half, with the score knotted at 13 with 7:48 to go after a layup from UCLA's Chris Smith. Kendal Manuelput Oregon State ahead with a 3-pointer. Thompson and Eubanks hit back-to-back layups to put Oregon State up 31-26 at the break, and Berger's basket to open the second half pushed the Beavers' margin to seven points. The pace favored Oregon State, which went into the game holding opponents to 65.2 points to lead the Pac-12. On the other side, UCLA was averaging 84 points per game, second in the Pac-12. The Beavers outrebounded the Bruins 45-37 and had a 33-22 advantage in points in the paint. Aaron Holiday led the Bruins (13-6, 4-3) with 22 points. Thomas Welsh finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds. The Beavers will host USC at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Gill Coliseum in a game televised on Pac-12 Network.
