Slow start does in the Beavs at Stanford

The Beavers got off to an awful start Thursday night in Palo Alto and never could recover. They trailed 43-28 at halftime and cut the deficit to six at 64-58 but the Cardinal holds off the Beavers 80-71. Highlights are above...post game quotes and the box score below. The Beavers move onto Berkeley Saturday. 4:30 the pregame coverage on 1190 KEX.

Here are the postgame quotes from Coach Wayne Tinkle

On The Game “At halftime, we told our guys that this is two games in a row where we got into a real funk to start the game. I told them that our key in the second half was to defend with a lot more passion, and we would cut into this lead --and with under eight minutes to go (the deficit) would be eight or less. Boom, it was almost prophetic. We came out, foul, foul, foul, foul-they got to the free-throw line. We lost our discipline. Defensively, we fouled too much and put them on the line; then we missed layups, free throws, and made turnovers. We counted seven offensive fouls against us and six illegal screens [in the second half]. I think our guys got really passive, and we carried that frustration over to the defensive end. “The bad thing is that this is the second game in a row where we waited until the second half to execute our plan. We dug too big a hole for ourselves. We have to get tougher.” On Stanford “Give them credit, they were the aggressor, they attacked us. We didn't guard Travis like we were supposed to. We were supposed to double and front him. We didn't do any of those, and he had a huge first half. We did a better job in the second half. We finally attacked and got him into foul trouble. That's how we were supposed to start the game.”
