Luke K's 11 and Beavs top ASU in game one 6-2

The Beavers are preparing for a huge month of May.  Lasr night at Goss the Beavers top ASU 6-2 thanks to another tremendous performance by lefty Luke Heimlich. He becomes the Pac-12's first 10-game winner with 11 strikeouts and giving up five hits over 8 2/3 innings.

The senior now has three consecutive games with 10 or more strikeouts – a first in his OSU career – and has 33 over his last 22 innings. By comparison,

Alec  Marsh was also sharp for ASU (17-24 overall, 9-10 Pac-12), holding the Beavers to five hits and two runs in seven innings.

Cadyn Grenier bunted in a run in the third to give OSU (31-6, 11-5) the lead, then watched as Adley Rutschman drove in a run with a single in the sixth. Marsh, who is now 3-3 on the year, was relieved by Jake Godfrey in the eighth and the Beavers took advantage. Jack Anderson hit a bases-loaded comebacker versus lefty Spencer Van Scoyoc, and an errant throw home run allowed two runs to score. Then Michael Gretler drove home a pair with a double down the third-base line to give the Beavers a 6-0 lead at the time. Gretler paced the Oregon State offense with two hits.

The Beavers now play game two of the three-game series with Arizona State this afternoon in Corvallis.
