The Beavers went into Los Angeles knowing they needed a great opening performance against USC. And they got it!! Lefty Luke Heimlich was perfect for the first four innings basically USC unable to touch him. They eventually chased him in the ninth after he had thrown 120 pitches but closer Jake Mulholland comes in and gets a quck 6-4-3 Double Play and Oregon State wins the game 4-0. Heimlich strikes out 14 and gets his 13th victory of the season....that leads the nation.
Kyle Nobach set a career-high with four hits to pace the Beavers, who recorded 11 as a team. He doubled in the second, and singled in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings. The redshirt senior drove in one, in the second, and scored two runs.
Nobach’s second-inning double opened the game’s scoring, and he brought home Oregon State’s second run that inning on a squeeze bunt by Steven Kwan.
Oregon State (41-8-1 overall, 17-7-1 Pac-12 Conference) put two more on the board in the seventh inning thanks to a single from Zak Taylor and double by Nick Madrigal.
Kyle Hurt started for USC (24-24, 11-17) and was charged with the loss after allowing 10 hits and four runs in seven innings. The right-hander dropped to 4-5 on the year.
