9th ranked Oregon State tops #14 Utah 71-63 in exciting contest at Gill!!

4,960 fans were loud and supportive at Gill on Super Bowl Sunday. The Oregon State Women's basketball win over Utah was a lot more exciting than Super Bowl 53. Down 11-2 to the 14th ranked Utes....Destiny Slocum put the team on her shoulders in the 2nd quarter with 18 first half points and its was 28-28 at intermission.

The Beavers were down 56-53 in the fourth when they went on an 11-1 run winning 71-63. With losses by North Carolina State and Stanford the Beavers have a chance to move up in the AP Poll to possibly as high as #7.

The No. 9 Oregon State women's basketball team knocked off No. 14 Utah 71-63 Sunday afternoon in a hard-fought matchup at Gill Coliseum.

"What a great game," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck . "The more I watched Utah, the more I was impressed. We knew they wouldn't be phased by anything, and their grit and toughness was really impressive. I was really pleased with our team rising to the challenge. This game demanded that we continue to elevate our game, and we got that from everyone. It was a great day in Gill, the crowd was awesome."

Redshirt-sophomore Destiny Slocum scored 20 points to go with five assists and three steals. Junior Mikayla Pivec put up 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.

Sophomore Aleah Goodman converted all six of her free throw attempts to score 12 points. Fellow sophomore Taya Corosdale scored nine points, pulled down six rebounds, and recorded two steals and two blocks.

Junior Maddie Washington returned to the floor, pulling down eight rebounds in 14 minutes of action.

Oregon State shot 44.8 percent in the game, including 53.6 percent in the second half. The Beavers also hit 45.5 percent of their 3-point attempts, shooting a blistering 71.4 percent from long range in the final two periods.

OSU turned the ball over just three times in the game.

Utah scored the first six points of the contest on its way to an 11-2 lead at the first media timeout. The Utes ended the first quarter up 13-8.

Oregon State fell behind by nine mid-way through the second, but the Beavers surged back to level the score one minute before the break. The teams headed to the intermission level at 28.

Slocum hit eight of Oregon State's 11 first-half field goals to head to the locker room with 18 points.

Corosdale scored on the first possession of the second half to give the Beavers their first lead. Oregon State went in front by six, before Utah used a 9-0 run to go back ahead by three. The two sides traded baskets for the remainder of the period, as the teams went into the closing frame level at 51.

Pivec came up with three consecutive buckets to spark a 9-0 Oregon State run, as the Beavers took a 62-56 edge.  OSU led by as many as nine, before the Utes got within four with less than two minutes to play. The Beavers made their free throws down the stretch to secure the eight-point victory.

Oregon State hits the road on Friday for a matchup with No. 8 Stanford. That game is slated to tip at 6 p.m. and will air live on Pac-12 Networks.
