Beavers battle Cougars with Pac-12 lead in sight!

 

It had to be a long trip to Reno and back for the Oregon State baseball team. Two one-run extra inning losses to Nevada. A fourth straight loss on a Tuesday and 20 hours on a bus to and from The Biggest Little City in the World. Put all of that aside because Oregon State returns to Pac-12 play today facing the Washington State Cougars today at Goss. 5:pm the pregame coverage on Rip City Radio 620 and Mike Parker will have the call at 5:35pm. I included on this post one of the last times the two teams met in Pullman last May. A 17-3 romp over the Cougars. Here is a look at the Pac-12 standings going into tonight's game:

Joe Caseyhit his third home run of the season and second in as many games but Oregon State lost 7-6 after Nevada scored twice in the ninth and once in the 10th on a Keaton Smith home run. Casey andAdley Rutschmanboth tallied two hits.Mitchell Verburgstruck out a career-best seven.

Against WSU

Oregon State is 7-2-1 versus the Cougars over the last 10 matchups, and the Beavers have won seven of the last eight series between the teams. Oregon State has swept the past two series at Goss Stadium, in 2015 and 2017, and is 10-2 over the last 12 games played in Corvallis.

Joe Casey has been swinging a hot bat over his last three games. The redshirt sophomore hit a home run in both games in Reno, and has multi-hit efforts in three straight. Over that stretch, he is 8-for-13 (.615) with three doubles, two home runs and five RBI.

Ober On A Seven-Gamer

Ryan Ober tallied an RBI single in Tuesday's game versus Nevada, extending his hit streak to seven games. He is 11-for-31 (.355) with two doubles, a home run and 10 RBI during the streak. He has hit safely in 14 of his last 16 games.

In Pac-12 Play

Oregon State (14-4) comes into the series a half game out of first place behind Stanford (13-2). The Beavers have won 13 of their last 14 Pac-12 games since starting league play with a 1-3 record.
