What an incredible morning for Mitch Canham. After a successful playing career for Oregon State and a nine-year odyssey playing pro ball but never getting past the triple-A level, Canham moved into managing and was on a fast track to potentially manage in the major league's one day. But there was one job that would trump any MLB job and that was the Oregon State baseball head coaching job.
After this season and Oregon State went on a national search Mitch Canham and the school made contact. This morning the 34-year old was introduced as the new baseball coach. His mentor and big fan Pat Casey was there. His family, friends and former classmates were in the Valley Football Center auditorium to see and hear his thoughts about returning home.
After the news gathering I had a chance to talk to Pat Casey who now offically hands the job over to Canham. I chatted with Scott Barnes on what he saw in the Lake Stevens, Washington native and I also asked Mitch about what he thinks about recruiting.
