Beavers fall to #8 after tough loss to Arizona State

Oregon State's very talented basketball team had their sight's set on the #1 spot in the Associated Press poll after beating Arizona in Tucson Friday night. The 63-61 win was impressive....on the road before a hostile crowd of 5,496 at the McKale Center.

Sunday in Tempe was another story. The crowd was mediocre, 2,491. In fact, the Oregon State fans made up about 20 percent of the crowd and were louder than Sun Devil fans. But, ASU came out with a game plan. Out muscle Oregon State. It worked. Mikayla Pivec was basically treated like a punching bag. She called the four quarters quote," A football game". Oregon State also suffered from an oppresive defense that made them uncomfortable from three-point range. 2 of 20 from long distance. That is unheard of by Oregon State and watch other teams in the future try to mimec the Sun Devils.

Give the Beavs credit, despite the physical nature of the game and the fact the Pac-12 officials calling the game didn't notice....Oregon State came back and tied the game at 45 with 2:30 to go. But then the offense shutdown and ASU wins it 55-47.

The Beavers, instead of moving into the #1 position in the AP Poll ever,,,,,,,,drop five spots #8.

Here is the rundown of the Pac-12 in the Women's basketball AP top 10

  1. South Carolina
  2. Baylor
  3. STANFORD (moves up two spots)
  4. Connecticut
  5. Louisville
  6. OREGON (drops four spots)
  7. UCLA (moves up one spot)
  8. OREGON STATE (drops five spots)
  9. North Carolina State
  10. Mississippi State

Arizona State moves into the Top 25....they were #26 and now sit at 18 by sweeping the Oregon schools. A whopping eight spot improvement. Arizona despite losing to both Oregon State and Oregon sit at #21. The Beavers host Cal Friday and #3 Stanford Sunday.
