Homeowner Fires Warning Shot At Robbery Suspect

Portland Police are trying to identify a potential robbery suspect who tried to break into a home until the home owner fired a shot.

Portland Police responded to the area of the 3200 block of Southeast 36th Avenue Tuesday morning regarding a shot fired. Officers arrived and learned that a suspect had been trying into break into the front door of a residence here.

The suspect kicked the front door of the residence and then began breaking the door with a cinder block. An occupant of the residence fired one gunshot as a warning to the person trying to break into the front door. The shot went upward into the structure of the front porch of the residence.

The suspect was last seen walking away south on Southeast 36th Avenue.

As officers investigated and searched the area they learned a short time later, a person who matched the description of this suspect committed a pedestrian robbery along Southeast 36th Avenue near Southeast Powell Boulevard. A person was walking a dog when the suspect approached, threatened to use force, and took property from the person. The suspect continued south on Southeast 36th Avenue.

Officers obtained a photo of the suspect, a white male, in his 20s or 30s, medium build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, camouflage pattern pants, and two different colored shoes.

Officers would like to identify this person and have shared a photograph with the hope that a community member may be able to help. Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call police.
