The Lakers played without Luka Doncic on Thursday night, so JJ Reddick leaned on James and Reaves to power the offense.
Deni Avdija led Portland with 28 points and Toumani Camara finished with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Los Angeles (33-21) closed the first quarter on a 21-7 run and opened the second on a 12-7 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 40-22. Portland responded with a 16-5 run to cut the deficit to seven at 45-38.
Portland (23-33) used a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to one at 70-69 with 3:21 left in the third quarter. The Lakers would take a 78-77 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Lakers took control of the game with a 12-3 run to push their lead to nine at 93-84. The Trail Blazers cut the deficit to four thanks to a 9-3 with 2:44 remaining but couldn't get over the hump.
The Trail Blazers tied a season-high with 16 steals and scored 31 points off of turnovers.
