Jrue Holiday led Portland (28-31) with 22 points, Jerami Grant added 21, and Scoot Henderson finished with 19 points and five assists.
Kris Murray got the start in place of Deni Avdija (Low Back Management) and finished with 16 points and five rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting.
Minnesota took a 45-33 midway thru the second but Portland was able to cut the deficit to three at half by attacking the basket. Portland connected on 12 free throws in the period and the Wolves took a 62-59 lead into the locker room.
The Timberwolves pushed their lead back to eight in the third following 11-straight points, but the Blazers used a 9-3 run at the end of the quarter and trailed by just two entering the fourth.
Portland trailed by three with 3:41 remaining following a bucket from Toumani Camara but Minnesota responded with a 7-2 run to push their lead back to nine at 120-111 with 1:09 remaining.
With the win, Minnesota improved to 3-0 on the season against Portland.
