What a great weekend for the Oregon State baseball team. First, the weather at the Husky ballpark was spectacular!! Then each OSU victory had different heroes.
On Friday night Brandon Eisert held Washington to four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts to send Oregon State to a series-opening 1-0 win over the Huskies
Eisert held the Huskies scoreless over 6 1/3 innings to win his sixth game of the season. He out-dueled Washington starter David Rhodes, who kept the Beavers to five hits and a run with four walks and eight strikeouts.
On Saturday there were two standouts on offense. Adley Rutschman and Ryan Ober both drove in three runs and Oregon State took the second game of a three-game series Saturday over Washington, 10-7,
Rutschman hit a bases-clearing double off Washington reliever Chris Micheles in the seventh to give the Beavers a four-run advantage. OSU went up earlier in the inning when Jake Harvey successfully squeezed in Ober from third.
Ober hit a three-run home run in Oregon State’s five-run first inning. The blast capped an inning that saw Tyler Malone and Matthew Gretler drive in solo runs.
Then on Sunday, George Mendazona hit a solo home run in the top of the 11thto send Oregon State to a 4-3 victory over Washington Sunday, giving the Beavers their first three-game sweep of the Huskies since 2005.
Mendazona hit a 2-1 pitch from Washington reliever Steve Emanuels straightaway to center and just over the glove of Husky outfielder Braiden Ward. The home run was the first of Mendazona’s career and snapped a 3-3 deadlock since the eighth inning.
Jake Mulholland, who overcame a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the 10th, kept Washington off the board in the bottom half of the 11thto earn his first win of the season. Emanuels was charged with the loss to drop to 2-3.
The Beavers now 19-5-1 overall and 6-3 in the Pac-12 conference return home for a two-game series with San Diego State Tuesday and Wednesday. First pitch at 5:35pm
