Luton named QB starter! WR Trevon Bradford out for Oklahoma State

It was one of big battles of the summer at Oregon State's training camp. Jake Luton the sixth-year senior versus Tristan Gebbia the redshirt sophomore transfer from Nebraska. Gebbia spent last season on the sidelines learning the Beaver offense and he showed this summer he can play and no doubt will see snaps this season. Luton spent last season battling various injuries and showed what kind of QB he can be in Boulder last October leading the Beavs back from that 31-3 abyss in the third quarter and beating the Buffs in OT.

Luton and Gebbia both impressed Coach Jonathan Smith in camp but for now the starting job goes to Luton.

Coach Smith told reporters: “It really started in January and the work he put in, the body of work through spring practice and fall camp,” Smith said. “I will say I think Tristan really made it tight the last week and a half the way he was playing. But we just felt at the end of the day Jake deserves to go first.

“I still feel confident we’ve got two guys we can score points with.”

Meanwhile the depth at Wide Reciever takes a hit for the game against the Cowboys on Friday.

Trevon Bradford will not play against the Cowboys. He continues to rehab a foot surgery he had in April and is not ready to go. Safety Jalen Moore is listed as questionable because of a nagging Hamstring injury. So who will start at Safety if Jalen can't go? Omar Hicks-Onu is a likely starter at one safety and then the other spot could go to David Morris, Jeffery Manning Junior or Shawn Wilson if Moore doesn't play.

The Beavers are in total Oklahoma State game prep. They practice today and will take Sunday off and then its game week!!! Pregame coverage on Rip City Radio 620 begins at 3:pm on Friday with a simulcast on 1190 KEX.
