----- Ricky Rubio and Donovan Mitchell combine for 58 points as the Utah Jazz top the Portland Trail Blazers 112-103 in overtime Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.
The Trail Blazers continue to be betrayed by their offense. In Wednesday's 112-103 overtime loss to the Jazz, the Blazers connected on just 39.8% of their shots including just 9-for-34 from three point range. Damian Lillard scored 33 points on 12-for-27 shooting and CJ McCollum scored just 16 points on 6-for-20 shooting.
The Blazers took a six-point lead at 92-86 with 3:22 to play after a three pointer from McCollum, but the Jazz responded with 6-0 run after a turnover from McCollum and a poor shot by Lillard, led to threes from both Thabo Sefolosha and Ricky Rubio.
Utah (5-3) got 16 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks from Rudy Gobert and 30 points from Rubio. The Jazz had a 54-20 edge in bench scoring including 28 points and six rebounds from Donovan Mitchell.
One bright spot, Jusuf Nurkic had his best game of the season finishing with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks.
Portland (4-4) lost Al-Farouq Aminu in the second half with an injured right ankle and left wrist. X-rays taken at the arena came back negative. Aminu's status for Thursday night is unknown.
Next up- Portland returns home for the second of back to back to host the Lakers Thursday night at Moda Center.
Chad's Take- .I am disappointed with the Trail Blazers 4-4 start to the season. I have high expectations for this group, and more importantly I anticipated a fast start. This is the easiest part of the Blazers schedule and so far, they are not taking advantage of it. Dame and CJ must make better decisions with the basketball, limit turnovers, and get their teammates involved in the offense. Jusuf Nurkic had his best game of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Portland will need more of that moving forward in order to provide balance to the offense and take pressure off of Dame and CJ to make shots.
