Bring Back Home Plate Collisions!

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp and Texas Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos were both ejected from Wednesday night's game at Dodger Stadium after a collision at home plate between Kemp and Chirinos led to both benches-clearing skirmish.

While the umpires maintain that Kemp and Chirinos were ejected for their roles in the scuffle after the play, it was obvious in the moment that each player felt the other had violated Major League Baseball's ban on home plate collisions. Kemp believed Chirinos was blocking the plate, and Chirinos was clearly barreled over by Kemp.

So who's to blame - Kemp or Chirinos?

Well, neither.

Blame Major League Baseball.

Ben Maller says the MLB may have had good intentions when they banned home plate collisions, but in doing so they took away one of the most exciting plays in all of baseball. Take a listen.
