Doug Gottlieb Rips Kendrick Perkins For Tying Racism to Nate Bjorkgren Hire
Doug Gottlieb: “What this is, is complete and utter nonsense, and we have to STOP at this very moment. I’m going to read you a Tweet from somebody who I respect and I like, but he’s doing the thing that is embarrassing. It’s flat-out embarrassing, it sucks, and I’m not going to put up with it anymore. Kendrick Perkins, a really good player, and respected guy who is now in the media with ESPN... So, Sportscenter puts out the Tweet ‘The Indiana Pacers have agreed to a deal with Toronto assistant Nate Bjorkgren as head coach, sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski.’ Kendrick Perkins tweets out ‘There’s other coaches out there who were more deserving, tbh. Carry on'.... WHY? Why are they more 'deserving', Kendrick?? Why? Because he’s White he doesn’t deserve to get the job?... He started coaching high school basketball, was the assistant with the Iowa Energy, who were coached by Nick Nurse, who he just worked for. Then he was a head coach in the G-League for the Dakota Wizards, the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Iowa Energy, and the Bakersfield Jam. He traveled around the country in the G-League and worked his way up. Then he made his way to the Suns, and then he was a part of the Toronto Raptors over the last two years, where they won a championship, and then after losing Kawhi Leonard there was no drop off in their performance. What exactly does he have to do, for YOU – Kendrick Perkins, to think he was ‘deserving’ of a job??... Where did we get to this point where we can’t just go ‘hmm, interesting hire. Didn’t see that one coming!’ I love the subtle shot at racism when they just had Nate McMillan, a Black head coach.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb blast ESPN NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins for a now-deleted Tweet Perkins made moments after the Indiana Pacers hired Toronto Raptors assistant Nate Bjorkgren as their new head coach, in a Tweet that may have been implying that race was a factor in Bjorkgren getting the job.

Check out the segment above as Gottlieb details why we need to stop this constant dialogue around race and who was more ‘deserving’ whenever there is a new coaching hire around the league.
