Sonny Lubick: Synonymous with Colorado State

When it comes to Colorado State football, one man, Sonny Lubick, is the most influential figure in the history of the program. He joined Chad and Travis on Rip City Drive Monday to discuss his career and this weekend’s season opener vs. Oregon State.

The Rams are unveiling their new stadium in this weekend’s kickoff vs. Oregon State. Lubick says he’s very excited to see the new stadium come to life.

“I think everybody who comes from Oregon will be impressed. I don’t think the majority of people have had the chance to get into the stadium because they’re putting the final touches on it. But they did a fantastic job. I’ve been into a few stadiums in my lifetime and to see this happen in Fort Collins and Colorado State, It’s really something. Everything about it is just first class.”

Lubick also talked about coaching alongside former Oregon State head coach Dennis Erickson while the two were at Miami.

“Dennis was a person who also treated people right. He was a fun guy and a good guy to coach for. I know all of us as assistant coaches who worked with him, we enjoyed our time. We worked hard, but he knew how to treat people and we enjoyed ourselves.”

Finally, he talked about what it was like to coach former Seahawks great Cortez Kennedy in college.

"Everybody knows about him as a player, but he was a solid, good person. He was just a big teddy bear and a very easy guy to be around and a guy to like."

Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to listen to this weekend’s Oregon State-Colorado State game on our sister station 1190 KEX.
