Yesterday, the Oregon State Beavers made the announcement that Jonathan Smith would be the next head coach at OSU. He joined Chad immediately following his introductory press conference today to discuss his new job.
Smith said that there’s no job he’d rather have.
“It fits so much...I’ve got three kids now. I can raise my kids here in Corvallis. Obviously, I’ve got great appreciation for what the place did for me as a student athlete and now I want to give back to this place. So the community, the University itself and the ability to compete and win the Pac-12 Conference…It’s my dream job.”
Smith also said his biggest focus will be changing the current Oregon State culture.
“Every time a head coach comes in and it’s new, things are going to be different and it’s going to take some time to establish the culture. But again, I do think the culture’s the first thing that makes a difference in a program. When everyone’s believing in the same thing, working on the same page, being accountable for the same thing, then you can really build some momentum.”
Finally Smith talked about how he plans to sell kids on Corvallis.
“I’ve sat in those seats. I’ve moved away from home to come up from California and done it. And I’ve got a bunch of good friends that I’ve made in my time here. You can build lasting relationships, get an elite education and get set up for the rest of your life. Whatever your goals or your visions for your life, you can get it done here at Oregon State.”
