Grizzlies Suffocate The Blazers

-----Mike Conley scores 23 points and dishes out six assists as the Memphis Grizzlies top the Portland Trail Blazers 92-83 Wednesday night at FedExForum in Memphis, TN.

The Trail Blazers offense was left behind in Houston as Memphis held Portland to a season-low in points in their 92-83 win Wednesday night at FedExForum in Memphis, TN.

The Blazers once again got off to a fast start building a 26-15 first quarter lead, but everything unraveled quickly in the second quarter. Memphis grabbed control of the game with a 17-2 run outscoring Portland 27-14 in the second quarter and never looked back.

The Grizzlies lured the Blazers into a physical half-court affair that frustrated the Blazers offense into a number of poor possessions and missed shots. Portland connected on just 36.8% of their shots including just 6-for-22 from three-point range.

''We had trouble scoring,'' Blazers coach Terry Stotts said. ''Part of it was their defense. I thought our offense never really got on track after the first quarter.''

CJ McCollum was the only one to get his offense going. McCollum played a great offensive game scoring 40 points on 16-for-27 shooting making a number of tough shots from all angles. Unfortunately for the Blazers, no one else could match McCollum's energy on offense. The other four starters combined to make just 9-for-41 from the field.

Jusuf Nurkic had an awful night scoring just two points on 1-for-15 shooting.

''I played bad. I struggled,'' said Nurkic. "Most of my shots were wide open, and I didn't make them.''

Memphis (16-11) got 23 points and six rebounds from Mike Conley and the Grizzlies had a 38-15 edge in bench points.

Up Next- The Trail Blazers will travel back to Portland as they host the Toronto Raptors Friday night at Moda Center. Game is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 PM.

Chad's Take- The four starters not named CJ McCollum combined to go 9-for-47 from the field.
