Blazers Outscore the Clippers

The third quarter was Lillard-Time for the Blazers on Monday night. Damian Lillard scored 22 of his game-high 39 points in the third quarter as the Portland Trail Blazers snapped a six-game road losing streak with a 131-127 win Monday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Blazers started quickly building a 15-point lead at 35-20 in the first quarter while hitting 13 of their first 16 shots from the floor, but the Clippers responded with a 32-16 run forcing Terry Stotts to take a timeout with 4:32 left in the first half. The two teams would go back and forth the rest of the way with the Clippers clinging to a two-point halftime lead at 60-58.

The Blazers changed the game in the third quarter behind the play of Lillard. The Blazers scored 42 points in the third, a season-high for points in a quarter. 

Danilo Gallinari, who finished with 22 points, nailed a three-point shot to leave the Clippers trailing 127-126. CJ McCollum got fouled and made both to keep the Trail Blazers ahead by three. The Blazers never trailed in the final quarter.

After recording 29 assists in their win over the Raptors on Friday, the Blazers finished with 26 assists against the Clippers. Portland is now 9-3 on the season when they record 23 or more assists in a game.

Portland (17-13) got 27 points from McCollum and 20 points and seven assists from Jusuf Nurkic. After finishing with 58 points on Friday night, the Blazers bench scored 24 against the Clippers. Evan Turner led the way with 10 points and two assists.

LA Clippers (17-13) got 39 points from Tobias Harris and 24 points from 24 points from Shai Gilgeious-Alexander. The Clippers have now dropped six of their last seven games.

Up Next- The Trail Blazers return home for three-straight games at Moda Center starting Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 PM.
