STANFORD, Calif. — It all hit Marcus Mariota at 9:37 p.m.

The Ducks’ star quarterback limped out of the athletic training room behind Stanford Stadium, wearing nothing but a pair of green shorts and a block off ice on his left knee, to greet his family.

When Mariota’s eyes met his father Toa’s in that moment, the tears began to stream down his face.

Mariota’s hopes for a BCS national championship and the Heisman Trophy took a beating, along with his body, during No. 2 Oregon’s 26-20 loss to No. 6 Stanford on Thursday night.
