Trail Blazers Come Up Short In Sacramento

Malik Monk scored 23 points including two free throws with 13 seconds remaining as the Sacramento Kings defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 121-118 in overtime Wednesday night at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

Monk added 10 assists and six rebounds helping fill the void with De'Aaron Fox out of the lineup (sore ankle). Domantas Sabonis finished with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists on 11-of-14 shooting and Davion Mitchell scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

The Kings led most of the first half but trailed 111-102 in the fourth quarter, then rallied down the stretch behind Monk. He hit two big free throws after initially being called for a charge against Shaedon Sharpe. The play was reviewed and overturned, negating the charge while Sharpe fouled out on the reversal.

Monk scored the final nine-points in regulation for the Kings.

Jerami Grant led Portland (3-5) with 38 points, Shaedon Sharpe scored 18 points, and DeAndre Ayton recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Malcolm Brogdon scored just five points before leaving the game early in the first quarter with a hamstring injury. Skylar Mays filled in for Brogdon and had a career night with 18 points and 11 assists. He connected on 8-of-15 from the floor.

Up Next- The Trail Blazers will get three-days off before facing the Lakers Sunday evening in Los Angeles. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 PM.
